Introduction to Netball
Netball is a fast, skilful team game based on running, jumping, throwing & catching.
It's played by 2 teams of 7 players, the aim of the game being to throw (shoot) the ball into the opposing goal hoop as many times as possible whilst, at the same time, preventing the opposition from scoring.
The court is divided into thirds. At both ends of the court there is a shooting semicircle and a 10ft goal post with a hoop.
The ball is advanced towards the target hoop by passing from team-mate to team-mate (no dribbling or running with the ball allowed).
Only 2 players from each team are allowed to shoot the ball at the target hoop.
Netball is strictly non-contact, and defending players must stay 3 feet away from an attacking player with the ball.
Each team member has a specific position that's restricted to an area on the court. These restricted areas have an attacking and defending player in them, each from an opposing team.
